Fred Simon est un excellent musicien et pour notre bonheur son instrument de prédilection est le banjo. Vous pourrez le constater en regardant ces deux vidéos où il joue deux de ses compositions, l’une sur un banjo acoustique, l’autre sur un banjo électrique et midi. C’est le modèle « Cosmos » de la marque Nechville.
On entend dire que Fred Simon est le « Béla Fleck » français. Ce qui exaspère pour le moins Fred Simon et pour cause. Cette affirmation est réductrice. Fred Simon joue du Fred Simon et laissons Béla Fleck là où il est. Bien sûr chaque génération de banjoïstes a été marquée par un grand innovateur. Earl Scruggs ou Don Reno pour les premiers, puis Bill Keith pour la suite. Fred Simon est de celle de Béla Fleck. Il a été bien sûr influencé par ce maître mais il ne le copie pas, car il a le talent nécessaire pour jouer sa propre musique. Tout comme JD Crowe ou Sonny Osborne, par exemple, ont été influencés par Earl Scruggs, ou Alan Munde ou Tony Trischka par Bill Keith. Ils jouent tous leur propre musique après avoir intégré les techniques inventées par les grands maîtres.
Alors il est temps de se rendre compte qu’il existe en France un très grand joueur de banjo. A vous de juger.
Si vous êtes de passage au festival de bluegrass de La Roche-sur-Foron (du 30.07 au 03.08.2014), ne manquez surtout pas le stand Nechville, le célèbre fabriquant de banjos américain. Vous pourrez essayer quelques-uns de ses superbes banjos et découvrir les innovations révolutionnaires qu’il a apportées à notre instrument favori.
Et soyez sûrs d’assister à son stage de réglage de banjo, avec un peu de chance, Tom Nechville lui-même s’occupera de votre banjo.
Amateurs de guitares et de banjos, ne manquez pas l’exposition organisée par la ville de Sarlat (24) du 23 au 25 mai 2014. Plusieurs rendez-vous vous sont proposés:
– exposition de guitares vintage et de banjos à l’Ancien Evêché, agrémentée de quelques jams
