The 2023 ACM AWARDS show, set to be held at FORD CENTER at THE STAR in FRISCO, TX (the practice facility for the DALLAS COWBOYS), will once again be available exclusively on the streaming service. Merle Haggard† est mort, ce mercredi 6 avril 2016 à Palo Cedro en Californie, le jour de son 79e anniversaire (né en 1937 à Bakersfield, Ca). Merle chantait pour les prisonniers, les laissés-pour-compte et autres déshérités de la vie. Il louait aussi sa fierté d’américain dans des succès tels que Okie from Muskogee,Sing Me Back Home, Fightin’ Side of Me.
Lance Roberts, son agent artistique, précise que Merle Haggard est décédé dans sa maison des suites de complications d’une mauvaise pneumonie.
Merle Haggard a enregistré près de 40 titres, n°1 pendant une carrière musicale qui a duré soixante ans depuis les années 1960 jusque dans la décade 2010.
Petit délinquant sorti au bout de quinze ans de la prison de San Quentin, Ca, Merle s’est forgé une robuste image de hors la loi, laquelle lui a permis de vendre des millions de disques. C’est dans cette prison, que le 24 février 1969, Johnny Cash y joua devant des détenus. Le concert fut enregistré sur disque et filmé par la chaîne de télévision Granada TV. Merle s’est occupé des trois concerts de Johnny Cash à San Quentin. En voyant Cash jouer, Haggard s’est décidé à remonter la pente et à reprendre la musique. Plusieurs années après, lors d’un concert de Cash, Haggard a été dire à Johnny qu’il avait apprécié son concert à San Quentin. Johnny Cash répondit : « Merle, je ne me rappelle pas bien de vous lors de ce concert ». Merle Haggard lui répondit « Johnny, je n’étais pas dans le groupe, j’étais dans l’assistance ! »
Les hommages ont immédiatement commencé à affluer du monde de la musique country et au-delà. « La musique country a subi l’une des plus grandes pertes.. », a déclaré Charlie Daniels sur Twitter. « Repose en paix Merle Haggard », « L’amour et les prières pour la famille Haggard », « Merle a été un pionnier … un véritable artiste … une légende », a ajouté Carrie Underwood. « Il n’y aura jamais un autre comme lui « , « Il n’y a pas de mots pour décrire la perte et la douleur sentir dans l’ensemble de la musique avec le passage du Merle Haggard . Merci Dieu pour sa vie et chansons », a déclaré le chanteur Brad Paisley.
