Il n’y pas que l’univers du banjo qui est endeuillé suite à la mort de Pete Seeger, le 27 janvier 2014. Le monde a perdu non seulement un merveilleux musicien qui a marqué et influencé plusieurs générations d’excellents artistes, mais également un grand humaniste, qui s’est battu toute sa vie contre la guerre (Vietnam), la ségrégation (combat pour les droits civiques des Noirs) ou en faveur de la défense de l’environnement. A la fois « protest singer » et « folk singer », Pete Seeger était un artiste engagé, qui faisait fi des pressions politiques, comme à l’époque du maccarthysme, et dont le talent sut si bien mettre en valeur ses idéaux et ses dénonciations (« Where have all the flowers gone ? », « If I Had a Hammer », « What Did You Learn In School? », version politique de « We Shall Overcome »). Il chanta notamment, avec Bruce Springsteen, le chef-d’œuvre de Woodie Guthrie « This Land Is Your Land », lors de la cérémonie d’inauguration de la première élection de Barack Obama (2009).

La ville de Blaye organise une très belle exposition de guitares acoustiques et électriques les 19 et 20 avril 2014. Mais il y aura aussi des banjos, car parmi les quatre luthiers présents sur place, il y aura Bruno Torrès, l’excellent luthier de banjos qu’Action Banjo avait rencontré en 2011.
Samedi soir à partir de 21h, concert avec le trio acoustique : Michel Haumont, Peter Finger et Solorazaf. Dimanche, des scènes ouvertes aux musiciens de 11h à 18h.
Cet événement aura lieu au Couvent des Minimes dans la Citadelle de Blaye.

Great Big World, le dernier album de Tony Trischka est sorti le 4 février 2014. C’est son 17e album solo, et on y retrouve toute la versatilité et l’inventivité qui caractérisent le talent de Tony. De nombreux invités prestigieux ont participé à ce nouveau projet, telles que les légendes du bluegrass Andy Statman, Russ Barenberg et Mike Compton, ainsi que des valeurs montantes de la nouvelle génération bluegrass comme Noam Pikelny et Abigail Washburn. Mais on y redécouvre aussi le chanteur folk Ramblin’ Jack Elliott, l’acteur John Goodman, et bien sûr son ami acteur et banjoïste Steve Martin.

Le prochain stage de musique acoustique de Virton (Belgique) aura lieu du lundi 7 au samedi 12 avril 2014. Ce sera la 29e édition de ce stage, et cette année encore, les organisateurs proposent environ une douzaine d’ateliers. La classe de banjo sera animée par Lluis Gomez.

Lluis Gomez est un excellent professeur et musicien espagnol basé à Barcelone, où il anime avec succès des stages sur le banjo bluegrass et autres styles. Il a publié une méthode de banjo.
Il a enregistré plusieurs albums, en solo ou en groupe.
Depuis plusieurs années, il organise un festival de bluegrass, musiques old-time et celtique, qui a lieu près de Barcelone.
