Every year around this time, Country Radio Seminar quietly tips its hand. CRS isn’t a fan-voted award show or a streaming popularity contest. It’s the room where the people who program country radio actually sit together and decide what gets spun, tested, and pushed. When CRS names its New Faces class, they are essentially saying, “These are the artists we believe can break through next.”  And historically, they’re usually right. Luke Combs has officially sent the internet into speculation mode. A countdown timer quietly appeared on his website, set to hit zero tomorrow at 10 a.m. Central, and longtime fans already think they know what this means.  Every few years, Arkansas quietly sends another reminder that some of the best country music is being made far outside the Nashville machine. Abbey Pierce is the latest example, and her debut album Don’t Call Me Darlin’ feels like a statement that arrived right on time.  |
