C’est la 3e année que l’association AL RAS BLUEGRASS AND OLD TIME MUSIC organise un stage de musique sur un weekend à Barcelone, le Barcelona Bluegrass Camp. De nombreux ateliers sont proposés et tous les niveaux sont acceptés. Deux classes de banjo pour les banjoïstes!

En 2015, Gérard DE SMAELE a publié un riche ouvrage en français permettant de comprendre l’histoire du banjo 5 cordes, BANJO ATTITUDES -Le banjo à cinq cordes : son histoire générale, sa documentation.
Cette année, il propose A Five-String Banjo Sourcebook, une œuvre complémentaire en anglais, qui présente avec exhaustivité les ressources de documentation ayant trait au banjo (livres, enregistrements, films, banjoïstes, luthiers, etc.) Cette compilation est incontournable pour quiconque s’intéresse vraiment à cet instrument fascinant.

« The American 5-string banjo is many things: a physical object of material culture with roots back to Africa and farther east, and a complex and ongoing development in North America; an equally complex musical culture ranging through vernacular, classical, and popular musical idioms and histories; and connections to social, cultural, and artistic networks. One volume cannot encompass all this, but Gérard De Smaele’s earlier work in French, « Banjo Attitudes », comes close. In the meantime we are lucky to have in hand De Smaele’s exhaustive compendium of history, research. and commentary on the banjo that will inform and nourish inquiry and interest. »

Cette année encore, Lluis Gomez sera le professeur de banjo pour le 33e Stage International de Musique Acoustique de Virton. Les inscriptions ouvrent le 01.01.2018 à 00.00. N’attendez pas pour vous inscrire, car les amateurs de ce stage d’une excellente qualité sont nombreux. En effet, plusieurs ateliers instrumentaux et vocaux sont proposés et tous animés par des musiciens et professeurs reconnus. Il y a aussi un atelier rythme et des ateliers interclasses où les stagiaires pratiquent la musique en groupe. Sans parler des concerts et jam sessions. En bref, c’est une semaine d’immersion musicale dans la joie et la bonne humeur.

Nous profitons de la sortie du nouveau disque du groupe Uli’s New Orléans Jazz Band pour rappeler l’excellence d’Eric au banjo 4 cordes.
L’Uli’s New Orléans Jazz Band est une formation germano-franco-anglo-suisse, qui s’est spécialisée dans le vieux jazz de la Nouvelle Orléans, depuis plus de 30 ans.
Elle est composée de: Uli Winterhager Batterie Eric Cousin Banjo, Guitare, vocal Martin Hess Contrebasse Robert Merian Clarinette, Saxophones John Service Trombone, vocal.
On peut les entendre en concert de 20h à 22h, tous les troisièmes mercredis de chaque mois, sauf en août, à Freiburg en Allemagne à l’Hôtel Restaurant Schwarzwalder Hof (Herrenstraße 43, 79098 Freiburg im Breisgau, Allemagne). Leur nouveau CD a été enregistré en live le 21 Juin 2017 dans cet hôtel. C’est du jazz Nouvelle Orléans de très grande qualité, à écouter sans modération.
